Educators in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia Invited to Participate

Applications are now open for World Smarts Changemakers, an innovative virtual exchange program designed to connect students from the United States and Guatemala in a 10-week collaborative experience. Funded by The Stevens Initiative at The Aspen Institute, this program aims to empower students to work together on real-world challenges, fostering bilingual communication and cross-cultural understanding.

The program seeks dedicated educators based in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia to lead this initiative in their classrooms. Selected educators will facilitate binational teams of students, guiding them as they explore community challenges inspired by the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

About the Program

Over 10 weeks, students from the US and Guatemala will collaborate through bilingual conversations and project-based learning. They’ll tackle real issues impacting communities in both countries, applying their language skills and critical thinking to develop meaningful solutions. This program provides students with a unique platform to improve their English and Spanish skills, all while deepening their understanding of global citizenship and cultural diversity.

Throughout the experience, students will engage in guided discussions, complete interactive assignments, and work together on collaborative projects. By participating in this exchange, they will not only grow academically but also gain the essential skills needed to become future leaders in a globally interconnected world.
